Tuscaloosa Baseball League

Ages 5-12

General Information for Spring 2024:

The spring 2024 season of Tuscaloosa Baseball League will consist of twelve games plus a tournament. The season will begin the week of Monday, March 18th and all games will be played on Mondays and Thursday at Sokol Park South. Practice begins Monday, February 26th. The season will conclude prior to Memorial Day (May 27th).

 

6U Baseball | 6U Coaches can protect up to 3 players
     Ages 5-6 
8U Baseball | 8U Coaches can protect up to 3 players
     Ages 7-8 
10U Baseball | 10U Coaches can protect up to 3 players  
     Ages 9-10 
12U Baseball | 12U Coaches can protect up to 5 players
     Ages 11-12

Protected players should be head coaches and assistant coaches' children.

Player Evaluations:

Player Evaluations will be held at Sokol South on Thursday, February 15th at 6pm.

Players should be dressed for physical activity, with a glove. There will be some batting involved so players are "encouraged " to bring a bat, however not required.

 

Baseball Draft Monday February 26th @ Belk Center

 

Baseball Coaches Meeting:

  • ALL coaches must attend the coaches meeting:
  • Monday, February 19
    7:00 p.m. at the Belk Center

A birth certificate is required.

Birth certificates can be submitted online below or in person at any activity center.

The age cutoff for 6U, 8U, 10U, & 12U baseball is May 1, 2024.

  • Ask yourself, "What age will my child be on May 1, 2024?"  For example: If the answer is 6, then your child is eligible as a 6 year old for the entire season.
  • Age Calculator: Input "5/1/2024" in the "Age at this Date" blank.  Input the player's date of birth into the "Date of Birth" blank.  Click "Calculate."

Practice & Games:

• Each team is allotted one practice per week as part of their registration fee. 

• Your coach may increase the number of practices at their discretion.
• If additional practices are needed during the week, a field may be rented through PARA (limited availability) at a discounted rate of $14.00 per hour (fields with lights are an additional $15.00 per hour). 

• Teams are also encouraged to find additional space for practice time at a local church, school, or playground if they do not want to pay for field rental.

• The process for reserving a field for practice will be reviewed with all coaches at the coaches meeting.  

• PARA will provide complimentary practice space at the McDonald Hughes ballfields and Braughton Park ballfields (Fosters).

• Game schedules will be posted to the top of this page once they are available.  

Coaching Information:

Volunteer coaches are needed for this program.  If you are interested in coaching, please complete the items below.

 

COACHES MEETING/CLINIC: 
There will be a mandatory coaches meeting scheduled prior to the beginning of the season.  See details above for dates/times.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
All coaches should submit the following items to the PARA administrator prior to approval for coaching in this program:

          • Youth Sports Coach's Application- Must be completed each season for every sport.
          • Signed Code of Conduct- Must be completed each season for every sport.
          • Photo of Driver's License (Required for annual background check).
          • Coach Safely Training (Must be completed annually).
          • Tuscaloosa Baseball League (formerly WABL) Coaching Questionnaire

Bat Rules:

Any metal bat is allowed in PARA baseball leagues and tournament play as long as it does not have Tee Ball markings, is shorter than 26" or longer than 34" in length.

All non-wood bats and multi piece wood bats must be stamped with the official USA Baseball mark signifying the bat meets the bat performance standards set forth by USA Baseball (the governing body of amateur baseball in the United States). 

Solid wood bats made from a single piece of wood, do not require the USA Baseball mark, but must meet all other bat requirements in size and length, as listed above.
