PARA’s neighborhood programming is designed to offer activities that meet the interests and needs of the communities surrounding each of its activity centers.  Some activities may be available at multiple centers, while others may be unique to a particular location.  Some upcoming neighborhood recreation programs are listed below by center.  If you have ideas for programming at your neighborhood center, please contact the center manager.

Tutoring is available for all ages on a variety of subjects which include: general math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, history, english, grammar, literature, biology, anatomy, social sciences, physics, genetics, geology, latin, french, greek, spanish.

Intro to Dance

Learn the basics of dancing!  You will try a new dance each week.  Classes for all ages!

Community Indoor Garage and Estate Sale

Have stuff lying around your house you need to sell?  You can sell your unwanted items or just browse the tables for local treasures!  Vendors must pre-register.  Sale will be advertised in Classified section of Tuscaloosa News and other PARA media.

Beat the heat and come to the Phelps gym for kid's only play!  The gym will be open for kids under 14.  Various equipment will be available for use.  Parent or guardian must be present at all times.

Stroller Steppin'

Stroll away stress and extra pounds with your baby!  The indoor walking track will be open to parents with strollers.  No registration necessary, just come and walk.

Quickstart Tennis

QuickStart Tennis is an exciting new play format for learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the sport by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter courts, and fun warm-up games.  For kids ages 5-8.  All equipment is provided and classes are small, so register early!

Time:  3:45pm-4:30pm

Cost:  $25 for a 5-class session

 Stride with Pride

Rain or shine, enjoy walking in comfort on our indoor walking track and treadmills.  Participants in the Fall Walking Challenge will count their steps using a FREE PARA pedometer.  Youth may participate also, if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Date:  August 17 – September 27 (open enrollment)
Time:  Daily, during center hours.

Taylorville Brown Branch of the Tuscaloosa Public Library

Located on the 2nd floor of the Miller Center, the Taylorville Brown Branch Library offers a great selection of books, DVDs, and audio books to borrow, and computers and wireless internet service are available on site.  They also conduct a variety of special programs for toddlers, children, teens and adults.  On-going programs include Pre-School Story Time, interactive Wii for Teens, and a monthly adult book discussion.  All Library events are free and open to the public.  Please call the Brown Branch Library at 391-9989 for their hours of operation and program information, or visit their website at www.tuscaloosa-library.org.
