PARA’s neighborhood programming is designed to offer activities that meet the interests and needs of the communities surrounding each of its activity centers.  Some activities may be available at multiple centers, while others may be unique to a particular location.  Some upcoming neighborhood recreation programs are listed below by center.  If you have ideas for programming at your neighborhood center, please contact the center manager.



Jerry Belk Activity Center

Stroller Patrol
Can’t find a sitter? Exercise with your baby! The walking track is open to parents with strollers.

STUDENT TUTORING
Tutoring is available for elementary to middle school students in subjects such as reading, math, biology, and social studies.

Leroy McAbee Activity Center 
 
McAbee Aerobics Classes
Put down the scales and do it the right way. Eat right and exercise. Join us at the McAbee for a three day workout. Each workout lasts an hour. We guarantee you’ll like it! Kick diabetes, high blood pressure, and shed those unwanted pounds. Allow us to show you how.

Student Tutoring
Tutorial and help sessions are now being offered for students grades k-8 in the following areas: Reading (fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary), science, social studies, and English. Students can receive help with school projects, learn note taking/study strategies, and even receive practice tests to prepare for major tests.

Cost: $15.00 per hour (K-6) and $20.00 per hour (7th and 8th)

 Taylorville Brown Branch of the Tuscaloosa Public Library

Located on the 2nd floor of the Miller Center, the Taylorville Brown Branch Library offers a great selection of books, DVDs, and audio books to borrow, and computers and wireless internet service are available on site.  They also conduct a variety of special programs for toddlers, children, teens and adults.  On-going programs include Pre-School Story Time, interactive Wii for Teens, and a monthly adult book discussion.  All Library events are free and open to the public.  Please call the Brown Branch Library at 391-9989 for their hours of operation and program information, or visit their website at www.tuscaloosa-library.org.
