Located directly south of Sokol Park, Ol’ Colony has emerged as one of the area’s most challenging and visually appealing golf courses. The University of Alabama made Ol’ Colony its home course and constructed a training facility on the grounds in 2005. The opening of a club house with a pro shop and diner completed the golf complex in 2007.

This Jerry Pate designed course is considered to be one of the best public golf courses in the country. In 2008, Golf Digest ranked Ol’ Colony as one of the Top 100 "Best Places You Can Play" and recently a "Top 10 in Alabama Course." The Birmingham News gave its blessings to Ol’ Colony with 4.5 out of a possible 5 star rating and compliments such as "awesome course" and "great staff."

Ol’ Colony also operates the Tuscaloosa Chapter of The First Tee program, a youth golf program designed to promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. The First Tee of Tuscaloosa is a chapter of The First Tee, an international nonprofit organization with more than 2.2 million participants. The hands-on approach to golf teaches the fundamentals of the game while simultaneously building life skills. More than 400 children between the ages of six and 18 currently participate in The First Tee of Tuscaloosa program, where they are taught nine core values: courtesy, judgment, perseverance, responsibility, confidence, respect, sportsmanship, integrity and honesty. This program continues to show steady growth with over 400 youth participating this year.

Established in 2007, the Brion Hardin First Tee Teaching Facility is equipped with a Trackman Launch Monitor, VUE 1 Software and Explaner Plane System, an indoor putting area and two hitting bays for fittings and lessons. Individual and corporate rates/lesson packages are available. This facility was completely financed by donations from our local community and business leaders.

###

Ol’ Colony Golf Complex offers premier golf at an affordable price.  Named one of the "Top 10 Alabama Courses" by Golf Digest 2009, and as a "Top 100 Course" in 2008, Ol’ Colony Golf Complex certainly lives up to its reputation.  This Jerry Pate designed course is considered one of the best public courses, not only in Alabama, but also in the nation.
The 18-hole course has rolling hills and is heavily wooded with tall pines and soaring oaks.  It’s sure to test even the most advanced golfer with large bunkers, mature trees, and water hazards that will challenge every shot, including a 25-acre lake. Another 18-holes, already designed by Pate, will be a welcome addition in the coming years.

Ol' Colony Golf Complex opened to much acclaim in December 2000 on 597 acres that was once a farm plantation for a mental institution named Boy's Colony.  The property, long abandoned by the institution, was tapped the perfect site for a course by the Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority.  In 2005, the University of Alabama golf teams made Ol’ Colony their home course and their practice facility is on premises.  A premium driving range and scenic 18-holes make this course a must play!
