May 30, 2018, 12:11pm
For the 38th year, Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority in conjunction with the City of Tuscaloosa is offering the Summer Meals Program. The program provides a healthy lunch to youth at the McDonald Hughes Community Center, located at 3101 MLK Blvd.
The meal is served weekdays, Monday-Friday at 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., today through August 3, and is free of charge to youth ages 18 and under. For adults, the cost is $3.90 per meal. Visit www.tcpara.org for a monthly schedule of menus.
Many parents face challenges in providing healthy dining options during the summer months while they work and their children are not in school. The program aims to provide meals with a meat, two vegetables, fresh fruit and milk to fill the gap between school terms.
PARA staff reports that during recent years, an average of 500+ youth per weekday enjoys their lunch at the Hughes Center.
