Fitness Classes

Cardio

  • Cardio Grit - Class designed to help you gain endurance and stamina to burn calories and give you more energy to conquer your day
  • Cardio Kick - It is a group fitness class that combines kickboxing moves with cardio. A high energy workout with choreographed kickboxing moves to upbeat music.
  • Cycle – Indoor cycling is a cardio based group exercise class performed on stationary bikes.  During the class, the instructor simulates hill-climbing, sprints, and races.
  • Dance 2 Fit – This is a dance fitness program that incorporates Dance and Fitness moves to today’s favorite music. Come join the party and get Fit by Dancing!
  • Kickboxing – a non- equipment kickboxing class which uses kicking and punching and is historically developed from karate mixed with boxing. Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a contact sport.
  • Nordic Walkfit – Holistic group exercise done indoors and outdoors that integrates Nordic walking with fitness and mind-body activities. Nordic walking is a full-body aerobic walking experience with origins in cross-country skiing.
  • Silver Sneakers Boom Move® - A higher intensity dance workout class that improves cardio endurance and burns calories. MOVE is all about breaking a sweat and having fun. The class focuses on cardio endurance by starting with simple dance moves then building into more complex sequences, bringing you a great cardio workout.
  • StepStep aerobics is a choreographed routine of stepping up and down on a rectangular, square, or circular platform (or, in the case of BOSU, a domed, flexible apparatus).
  • Zumba® – Zumba fuses Latin, international, and chart topping music and dance themes together for a dynamic fitness class.  This 60 minutes class combines fast and slow rhythm that sculpts the body.
  • Zumba® Gold - With a similar feel to Zumba®, this specialty Zumba® class is designed for active older adults or those looking for a low-impact workout.

Strength

  • Ab Attack - Core strengthening exercises designed to gain core strength and tone the belly region.
  • Core – A class that targets core strength and stabilization by incorporating the gliders, stability balls, and more.
  • Firearms - Mind

Blended

  • Aqua Flex - Exercises are designed to provide a low-impact workout using the resistance and massaging properties of water for participants with all types of arthritis and for most other special populations.
  • Aqua Flex Plus – Exercises are designed to increase range of motion and stamina through a moderate intensity low-impact workout.  This class is appropriate for individuals with arthritis and for most other special populations. 
  • Aqua Power Flex - This is a moderate to high intensity water aerobic workout designed to increase overall fitness.  Various class formats including circuit training and interval training are used to increase exercise variety.  Equipment such as tubing and water dumbbells are used in each class session.
  • Boot camp – This 45-minute class combines bodyweight, strength, and cardio exercises into intervals allowing you to push yourself to fitness levels you never thought possible.  All fitness levels are encouraged to participate.
  • Circuit Training - Levels I, II, III - High Intensity Interval Training - Strength and Cardio Conditioning - Weights, Bodyweight, Equipment. A dynamic and energy filled cardio/muscle training workout. Cycle through cardio and strength intervals. This low impact, high intensity class is not just designed to increase your strength and balance; it will transform your body. 
  • Core & Cardio – HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) with a focus on intense cardio moves to get the heart rate up as well as movements that focus on the core to build up ab muscles and strengthen the back. (This class may be used as a fill-in on an as needed basis.)
  • Dance Aerobics/Line Dancing – Both are 50-minute choreographed dance classes.  We incorporate aerobic and dance movements to a wide range of music. Please come and join us for a fun time!
  • Deep Water – This 60-minute class uses exercises designed to provide a deep water workout using the resistance and massaging properties of the water in the recreational pool.
  • GIT Fit – Looking for a great workout with a lower intensity…this is the class for you!  Sit and GIT Fit is a wonderful transition class for those of you taking water aerobics and looking to move on land and increase your strength.  This class will enable you to improve your strength and lungs with some added resistance.
  • HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training
  • Kickboxing – a class that combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio. This high-energy workout challenges the beginner and elite athlete alike. Build stamina; improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories as you build lean muscle with this fun and challenging workout.
  • Fitness Fusion – Formatted for all skill levels.  Fitness Fusion will help you sculpt, tone, and burn to the level you desire in this dynamic group setting.  This class incorporates cardio, weights, isometric movements and body weight exercises.
  • Forever Young –This low impact class designed for the senior population focuses on balance, coordination, flexibility, and bone, heart and lung strengthening segments that may be performed standing or seated.
  • Legs Get Together - Lower body circuit focused on gaining lower body strength, power, and endurance 
  • Mix it up Monday – This is a 60-minute class and is designed with variety in mind.  This class will incorporate HITT training, strength training, yoga, and possibly even a little drumming!
  • PHITT This high intensity class incorporates a variety of strength and cardiovascular exercises to literally get you fit, quick!
  • Pilates & Total Body Conditioning – This class will offer traditional Pilates exercises to strengthen your core and more challenging muscle endurance exercises for your entire body.  All ages and levels of fitness are welcome.  Students are encouraged to bring their own mats.
  • Pound® the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums.
  • Quick Fit – This less than 1 hour high intensity class incorporates a variety of strength and cardiovascular exercises to literally get you fit, quick!
  • Silver Sneakers Classic® - Designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support and class can be modified depending on fitness levels.
  • Silver Sneakers Splash® - A fun, shallow-water exercise class that uses a signature splash-board to increase movement and intensity options. Splash is suitable for all skill levels and is safe for non-swimmers. The pool provides many benefits when used for aerobic exercise and resistance training.
  • Strength and Conditioning - This 45-minute class focuses on muscular strength and endurance for all major muscle groups. This class also incorporates skill related fitness, such as balance, coordination, and power. Exercises include using body weight, sandbells, BOSUs, and more. All fitness levels are welcome.
  • Strong by Zumba® - STRONG by Zumba® combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move.
  • Water Aerobics – This class can help you shed unwanted pounds and put an end to knee and back pains.  This format allows you to perform exercises in the heated therapy pool that you may or may not be able to do on land.
  • Zumba® Core & Glutes - This specialty Zumba® class combines a strengthening core workout which, enhances balance and stability, and improves posture and alignment to help amp up your every move with dynamic and easy-to-follow movements designed to work your glutes and shape your booty!
  • Zumba® Gold Toning - This specialty Zumba® class Tailored for active older adults, who want to focus on muscle conditioning and light weight activity.
  • Zumba® Toning - This specialty Zumba® class blends body-sculpting techniques and specific Zumba moves into one calorie-burning, strength-training experience. You'll learn how to use weighted, maraca-like Zumba Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm, build strength and tone all the right target zones.

Mind/Body

  • Gentle Yoga – This class is for persons with MS, back conditions, arthritis, senior adults or beginners who would like to take an adapted (gentle) yoga class.  You may use a chair during this yoga class.
  • Hatha Yoga – Yoga Asana, Pranayama, Meditation.  Learn relaxation techniques while you increase your strength and flexibility!
  • Mat Pilates – classic mat Pilates exercise are taken to the next level with the addition of simple, small props: resistance bands, small stability balls, blocks and light hand weights.  Stability, strength, and flexibility remain the focus of every class, and use of props is completely optional for participants.  Progression and modifications are always offered.  Props are provided.
  • Mobility & Agility – During this 20-minute class, we will focus on balance, range of motion, and general functionality of the body.  This class will range from intensive stretching, explosive movements, core stability, to slow-deep stretching, body awareness and balance.
  • Pilates - this class uses special apparatus, designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture, and enhance mental awareness.
  • Stretch Fusion - Level I, II, III - This class focuses on stretching and flexibility fused with core workouts. Great for soreness, tight muscles, injuries, & active recovery. Improve your blood circulation and tone muscles as well. Enjoy deep tissue massage known as Myofascial Release taught with the use of foam rollers.
  • Sun Style Tai Chi for Arthritis - is a medically proven most effective, gentle and easy breathing low-impact workout that has cured hundreds of Americans with such problems as arthritis, joints/knees pains, balance, muscle/tendon, cardiorespiratory & overweight (Dr. Paul Lam, 2003). It combines Qigong (breathing practice) in all body movements gently & safely. It opens up one’s energy channels to pump energy flows throughout entire body to strengthen our muscles, spine, bones & joints. Without surprise, it also helps people lose excessive fat/weighs effectively.
  • Tai Chi for Arthritis and Diabetes - Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art, Qi Gong (breathing exercise to increase Oxygen level in human body) that incorporates the diaphragmatic breathing and relaxation with varied gentle, slow and soft movements. Previous studies have shown that it improves respiratory and cardiovascular functions, while improving flexibility and relieving stress.  In particular, its positive healing effects on chronic illnesses such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, fibromyalgia, and overweight problems have been clinically proven by numerous researchers and health institutes. Tai Chi improves balance, immune system response, regulates blood sugar level, stress release, weight loss, and flexibility in contrast to strenuous physical activities, which depresses it. 
  • Yang Style Tai Chi – Tai Chi is one of the ancient Chinese martial arts, known as harmonious and gentle “Moving Meditation” or “Shadow Boxing” created in China over 3000 years ago. The principles of Tai Chi derive from the Daoist philosophy and the Book of Change (I Ching, 易經). All changes exist Tai Chi, the continuing flows of two opposing forces yin (陰) and yang 陽).
  • Yoga – Yoga is a slower pace class where all levels are welcome.  We will hold postures and slow down our movement to explore the benefits of alignment and poses.  Each class ends with a time of silent rest and meditation.
  • Yoga with Joe - Join us as we learn about yoga and meditation in an open inclusive environment. In this class we will focus on simple movement and creating awareness for how energy moves through our bodies. Participants will need to bring their own yoga mat, and a small blanket if desired. All physical ability levels are welcome!  (Hughes Center Only)
  • Yoga for Every Body - This one hour class will focus on cultivating a strong mind, body, and spirit. Together we will move through a basic set of Hatha Yoga postures while maintaining meditative awareness on our breath. We will offer modifications for newer students and suggest more challenging variations for the advanced. Participants will need to bring their own yoga mat, and a small blanket if desired. All levels - beginners are welcome! (McAbee Center Only)
