Discovery Hikes - November 14

Take a walk through the forest and learn the language of the trees. On this short hike of about one mile, learn why Tuscaloosa is nicknamed the Druid City and explore the lore and language of the Ogham trees through poetry and storytelling.
Befriend the Ash, Holly and Oak and learn how to identify these as well as other tree species.

Where?

Hiking Information:

  • Join us for a moderately-paced hike accompanied by brief nature-based learning discussion and activities.
  • Bring the whole family and shoes for walking on easy to moderate trails.
  • Bring a water bottle and light snack.
  • All hikes will be socially distanced.

Disc Golf Courses

Bowers Park Disc Golf Course

  • Fun and challenging in hilly, wooded terrain. Features 3 open holes and 15 in beautiful woods. Three holes are positioned along a creek. All holes have 3 carpeted teepads for all skill levels.

Palmore Park Disc Golf Course

  • The course has 18 holes and the course is mostly flat terrain and since it is flat it is a good course for beginners just learning to play disc golf.
  • There are tees for ALL skill levels: Gold, tees for pros with several +900' holes, Blue long tees, White short tees and Red tees for beginners. 
    -Brand new Innova Discatcher Targets
    -Multiple pin locations on most all holes
    -Great use of O.B. and tree lines to accommodate lack of elevation and obstacles 
    -Course runs along edge of park and mostly avoids other commonly used areas

Ol' Colony Disc Golf Course

  •  This mixed terrain course features open field shots with some changes in elevation and tightly wooded holes. The course has one tee and two pin positions per hole. 
  • Disc golfers are encouraged to use the ball golf clubhouse snack bar and bathrooms.
  • Dress code - disc golfers must wear a shirt during play.

Fishing

  • All patrons must obtain a valid fishing license (where applicable) and follow rules by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • All overnight campers will receive up to 4 fishing permits per campsite.  Additional fishing permits may be purchased on-site.
  • Daily Fishing Permits: $10 Adults, 12 & under FREE with paid Adult (Fishing FREE with Outdoor Membership)

Boating

  • A boat ramp for hand-carried and non-gas motor boat launch is available.
  • Canoe and kayak rental is available on-site. (FREE with Outdoor Membership, $20-4 hours)
    • Hours: 10a-2p, Wednesday-Saturday, see park attendant upon arrival.
