Therapeutic Recreation

Cooking Class is designed to help participants learn the basic techniques of cooking and kitchen safety. Cooking classes are held at the McAbee Center every 2nd and 4th Monday.

All participants MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED to attend. The cost is $12 per class. 

The Special Olympic Basketball training & competition program will meet every Tuesday & Thursday at the Belk Activity Center starting in January through February* from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost is $30 per participant for the season.

The State Basketball Tournament will be in Montgomery, Al on March 6-7, 2025.

Bowling will meet each Wednesday afternoon at Bowlero on McFarland Blvd. from 2:00p.m.- 4:00p.m.! The cost is $4 per game. We only accept cash at the bowling alley! Everyone MUST be picked up by 4p.m.

The 2024-2025 Competitive Swim Program will meet each Wednesday at the Miller Center in March from 4:30 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. The cost is $20.00 per participant per month.

*No Swimming on Wednesday, March 12th

The Spring Golf program will meet at the Ol’ Colony Golf Complex each TUESDAY in March, beginning March 18 th, from 4:30p.m.-6:00p.m. The cost is $20 per participant for the month. All golfers must have their own bag of clubs to participate in the spring golf program and may not use the clubs of other golfers.

The Dinner & a Movie Program promotes money management, appropriate behavior, and decision-making skills. Space is limited!

All participants must be pre-registered to attend.

Each registered participant must also bring $25 in cash to cover the cost of his/her dinner.

UA Alabama Baseball outing: Join PARA to see the University of Alabama Baseball team take on the University of Missouri on April 26th . PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED, and the deadline for registration is Friday, March 7th . The cost is $30 per participant.

UA CrossingPoints Dinner Theater presents Toy Story April 10 5-9PM $45

This beginner to intermediate level class is designed for adults with special abilities to gain balance, strength, and endurance. All exercises can be adapted and modified for every function level from high to low levels of assistance needed.

A program focused on helping individuals with special abilities make strides towards independence. The program includes both classroom and onsite vocational and social skills instruction including supervised work experience at a PARA facility. February 13 - March 6, 2025. 

**Cost is $30 per class or save $20 and enroll for all four for $100.
