Youth Developmental Basketball

Mission/Purpose

PARA will provide an opportunity for youth of Tuscaloosa County to participate in an organized league of basketball. This league will endeavor to teach participants good sportsmanship, team work, and the fundamentals of Basketball under the guidance of qualified adult leadership.

The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority will adhere to current Federal CDC, state ADPH, and local health guidelines as well as the Alabama High School Athletics Association AHSAA, when administering and coordinating public safety in our facilities for youth and adult athletic events when dealing with the public in regards to public health and safety.

Leagues within the program

6U is COED. 8U, 10U and 12U for boys and girls.

Age Cutoff

August 1

Ask yourself, "What age was my child on August 1, 2020?" For example: If the answer is 6, then your child is eligible as a 6 year old for the entire season.
Age Calculator: Input "August 1, 2020" in the "Age at this Date" blank. Input the player's date of birth into the "Date of Birth" blank. Click "Calculate."

Cost

6U COED $110 per player 8U, 10U, 12U $130 per player

Roster size

Coaches can sign up 8 players. PARA will assign free agents to each team bringing them to a maximum roster size of 10 per team.

Key elements of the program

The Developmental Program is in place to develop players. Coaches will be given a curriculum and standards for each age group to be able to accomplish by the end of each season. HEAVY emphasis on the fundamentals of the game. This league is perfect or players who are either new to the sport or are not quite ready for a full-on competitive environment. This is a teaching league. Most of our players will play in this league.

How to Register

If you already know the team your child is playing for you will submit your individual registration as playing for a team and include the age group and name of the coach/team. If your child is a free agent, you will submit your individual registration as a free agent and PARA will assign your child to a roster.
